A Better Free Personality Type Indicator

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

Despite its popularity the Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) has many psychometric flaws, including poor validity (i.e. not measuring what it purports to measure) and poor reliability (giving different results for the same person on different occasions).

The best, most widely accepted and commonly used model of personality in current academic psychology is the Big Five model which consists of the following five factors: Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Nervousness or OCEAN. Dr Iain McCormick and Stewart Forsyth, both trained in psychometrics, have produced a simple and free version of the test that anyone can use on the understanding they are willing to share their anonymised data with the authors. We believe it is a much better alternative than older tests in common use. For a PDF version email iain@eccltd.co.nz
